The Ruapehu region’s best bike trails have just been profiled in a newly published brochure, Ruapehu Great Bike Rides.

The detailed brochure has been written and designed by a keen mountain biker who is familiar with the region and provides extensive details for any rider, whether they be advanced, beginners or somewhere in between.

The featured rides are near Ohakune, National Park and Raetihi.      Included are details on some of the more well known trails such as the 42 Traverse and one which incorporates the iconic Bridge to Nowhere.

Some rides, such as the Ohakune Old Coach Road are part of the New Zealand Government’s cycleway initiative.    The first stage of the cycleway is already opened with cyclists starting from the Ohakune Heritage Railway station at The Junction.

The Ruapehu Great Bike Rides brochure was developed by Ohakune 2000, with support from Visit Ruapehu.

“The demand by bikers in the region continues to grow. We are seeing development of tourism operators providing equipment hire services and transportation shuttles to facilitate the experience for riders.  It is great news for the region”, says Trish May from Visit Ruapehu.
