Special day to celebrate Lions Club's gift to Thames' Centennial Pool.

An inflatable assault course designed to float in the Thames Centennial Pool has been gifted by the local Lions Club to the people of Thames.

The fun obstacle course will be formally handed over to throngs of eager children keen to try out their skills at a special open day on Sunday 31 January.

Entry to the pool complex will be free from 11 AM to 12 noon on the day with a short ceremony at noon launching an afternoon of entertainment including music, games and a sausage sizzle.

Thames Community Board member Denis Rogers took the idea of a new inflatable pool toy to the local Lions Club and with the help of community spirit and fundraising, the new toy was purchased last month and arrived last week.

"We used to have a smaller version of this some years ago and it has been missed, so we thought this would be a great gift to the next generation of young pool users," said Mr. Rogers.

The new attraction features a series of inflated humps, bumps and hoops to climb over and squeeze through, ending in a final slide into the pool.

Thames-Coromandel District Council Area Co-ordinator for the Thames Community Board, Kim Cuttriss tested a similar model in the line of duty over the summer break.

"It was endless fun and everyone was lining up for more," she said. "And while it was predominantly for the kids, the parents were having a great time playing along with them."
