A strong environmental statement by a leading New Zealand artist Lori Davis will be seen at Bowater Toyota car forecourt in Nelson next month.

Davis has decided to stage her March 4-18 exhibition in the new Nelson car yard to raise issues including global warning. Her latest body of work represents New Zealand as the Garden of Eden.

``If we pay attention, very carefully, then we can keep the best of what ever have in the country. These latest paintings will show detail of our landscape and encourage people to sustain the wonderful communities we live in,’’ Davis said today.

``Let’s look after our family, friends, land, economy and our lives and we can reach a mental and spiritual Garden of Eden.

``As the world progresses, the clean, green and natural features of the planet disappear. We are losing the great details of the planet. Cities are constantly expanding, concrete is replacing grass and global warming is becoming a serious problem.

``Natural sanctuaries are not always found in traditional places such as beaches or lakes any more, people are having to find it other ways such as in books, video games or art. Recovery is needed and something needs to be done before it is too late to save family, friends, neighbours, the economy, the environment and ourselves.’’ Part of the proceeds will go to the Cancer Society.

Davis said she had a burning desire as an artist to improve urban design, healthy homes, health care, environment and end isolation of families. Her works will portray the detail of the beauty of a Garden of Eden.

Davis began painting full time six years ago, has exhibited at Nelson’s RED gallery and a number of her works are hanging in Nelson Hospital.
