Snyders shows out in New South Wales swim championships
Olympian Glenn Snyders showed he is returning to top form with a second medal at the New South Wales swimming championships in Sydney last night.
Snyders, who had surgery to repair a long-standing knee surgery, finished third in the 100m breaststroke after second place in the 50m last night.
His time of 1:03.09 showed Snyders is on track for April’s Commonwealth Games trials.
North Shore’s Emily Thomas was the other medallist on the second day or competition at Sydney’s Olympic Park Aquatic Centre, finishing third in the 100m backstroke in an excellent 1:01.66, which is only 3/10ths of a second outside the qualifying time for the Commonwealth Games.
New Zealand swimmers made 12 finals on the second day including all three North Shore backstrokers, Thomas, yesterday’s medallist Melissa Ingram and Jessie Blundell who were third, fourth and fifth in the 100m backstroke.
There were three in the final of the 50m freestyle including Olympian Hayley Palmer, fifth in 26.05, Samantha Richter and Amaka Gessler, from the International Training Centre, seventh and eighth respectively.
Three kiwis also made the final in the 50m butterfly with Olympian Corney Swanepoel fifth, William Benson sixth and Daniel Bell 10th, who went on to place a creditable fourth in the 200m backstroke in 2.02.85.
