It was Robert Steel all the way in the jump-off of the horse grand prix at the three day Taihape Showjumping Champs yesterday (Sunday).

Steel (Hawera) aboard his horse Countryman were the only double clear of the 13 starters, three of who made it through to the jump-off.

Catherine Cameron (Cambridge) bagged second and third places with her horses Kahurangi Valentino and Kahurangi Tardak.

Things were a little tighter in the pony grand prix where Luke Dee (Gisborne) headed home 32 other combinations to take the honours. Eight went through to the jump-off, with six going double clear. Old mates Dee and Jake Lambert (Cambridge) dueled it out for the top spot but in the end Dee and Maximus were 1.62 seconds faster.

Lambert finished second and third on his ponies Once in a Blue Moon and Co Calico.

Helen Bruce (Palmerston North) and Dark Magic LS took out the young rider class, ahead of 17 other combinations.
