Top athletic champions to compete
The 65th Manawatu Inter Secondary Schools Athletics Championships is being held on Saturday March 13 at the all weather Manawatu Community Athletics Track at Massey University. Secondary school students from the Tararua, Horowhenua, Rangitikei and Manawatu regions are set to compete, with the first event starting at 9.45am.
Over 450 students are expected to compete, attempting to out run, out jump and out throw their peers in a range of inclusive athletics events.
“We are expecting another great turn out for the event this year and encourage parents and spectators to come down for the day to support the region’s top young athletes,” says Sport Manawatu’s secondary school sport events coordinator, Tracey Robert.
“I am looking forward to my first experience of one of the most talked about events on the secondary school sports calendar.”
Horowhenua College will help run the event this year in conjunction with Sport Manawatu. The event is supported by approximately 100 volunteers which are a combination of school staff, parents and Palmerston North Athletics Club officials.
