Paper Plus has scored a hole-in-one for Cure Kids after raising more than $13,500 for the national charity at its annual charity golf tournament on Friday 19 February.

Over 120 Paper Plus suppliers attended the golf day held at Akarana Golf Club in Mt Roskill. The day’s play, which kicked off at 12.30pm after a sausage sizzle, involved 30 teams competing in the friendly Ambrose format.

Team entry fees, hole sponsorship, an enticing auction and raffle prizes, donated by a number of generous sponsors, ensured a great fundraising result.

The money raised will be used to help fund the extensive research Cure Kids undertakes into childhood diseases in New Zealand, helping to save hundreds of young Kiwi kids’ lives and providing a better quality of life for thousands of other sick children.

Paper Plus Chief Executive Rob Smith says he was delighted with the stellar turn-out and play on the day and with the amount raised for Cure Kids, the Paper Plus Group’s national charity partner.

“We were overwhelmed by the show of support from all our suppliers, and the money raised far exceeded our expectations,” says Rob. “This is a great annual event for the Paper Plus Group and its success depends on the generous charitable donations from our sponsors, partners and suppliers. This year’s outcome trumped last year’s charity donation and is a fantastic result for Cure Kids,” he says.

The top auction prize was an Ultimate Golf Experience – a round of golf for four at the Jack’s Point Gold Course on Lake Wakatipu, flights to Queenstown, a rental car and accommodation at Peppers Beacon Resort. Also up for grabs was a round of golf at Hawke’s Bay’s prestigious Cape Kidnappers Golf Course, ranked 13th in the Top 100 Golf Courses in the World for 2009-2010 by Golf Digest.

Cure Kids is delighted with the ongoing support from Paper Plus. Carolyn Hobson General Manager Brand & Business Development says, “Paper Plus has been a long time supporter of Cure Kids through our ‘Add a Dollar’ campaign, Great Adventure Race, Novotel $10 Challenge, and the annual Paper Plus charity golf day. Without the generous support of companies like Paper Plus and their suppliers we wouldn’t be able to do what we do - fund research to find cures for the life-threatening illnesses affecting Kiwi children, and give them and their families hope. Thank you Paper Plus.”

The event sponsors included Peppers Retreats Resorts & Hotels, The Hills, Blackpepper, Budget Rental Cars, The Farm Cape Kidnappers, Electronic Surveillance Systems, ASB, Hyde Group Advertising, Project Floors, Jasco, Trio, Faber-Castell, Croxley Nutech, The National Bank, Hachette NZ and Ricoh.

A huge number of generous prizes were also donated by Botany Town Centre, Fairfax Magazines, Hachette NZ, Random House, Morton Estate, Tamara Spa, Abe’s Real Bagels, Auckland Seafood School, Briscoe Group, Elizabeth Arden, DB, Ricoh and Maison Vauron Wine Merchants.
