NORTH SHORE CITY

The North Shore Hospital Foundation will benefit significantly from arguably New Zealand’s biggest single art in one garden event at Coatesville on March 27 and 28.

Organiser Susan Herbert said she knew of no other art-in-the garden exhibition on one residential property with works of over 40 artists.

The foundation’s Homecare 4 Kids will receive the net profits from the weekend event.

Among the leading artists who will have works exhibited are Peter O'Hagan, one of New Zealand's most successful artists who was appointed artist in residence at the champagne house Veuve Clicquot in France.

Others include James Lawrence, who studied at North Texas University, and Cyril Whiteoak who will have a silent auction for one of his oils. Whiteoak died last year, 89, and was a long time tutor at the Auckland Society of Arts. He was a silver medal winner from the City of London Guild of Painters.

Sculptor John Ferguson who has one of his pieces on permanent display at the Alexandria Library in Egypt, will also be among the exhibitors.

Herbert said the North Shore Hospital Foundation, which she hopes will benefit about $15,000 from the auction, wanted to improve the quality of life and health for children through helping families towards self care of their children.

``The foundation provides clinical interventions in the home for children so that they do not have to visit hospitals,’’ Herbert said.
