The many local fans of bestselling international thriller writer Lee Child will be delighted at the news that the Paper Plus Group is hosting a special event starring the British novelist at Ellerslie Event Centre in Auckland on Monday 12 April. Child is visiting New Zealand from his homes in New York and France to talk about his latest thriller, 61 Hours.

Lee Child is one of the most successful authors in history – his Jack Reacher series is the top-selling adult fiction book series of all time.

Part of the Paper Plus Books & Bubbles series, the cocktail-style function will be hosted by New Zealand bestselling author Justin Brown, and will be the biggest event to feature Child during his visit. At the event, Child will discuss his life and work with Justin, and chat with and take questions from the audience.

Lyle Hastings, Paper Plus Group Marketing Manager says,”We are delighted to host an international author of Lee’s calibre and look forward to seeing his many fans gather for what will be a fun-filled evening of book banter.”

Lee Child is British but moved with his family from Cumbria to the United States to start a new career as a writer of thrillers, all starring Jack Reacher, an American former military policeman and maverick drifter. His first novel, Killing Floor, won the Anthony Award, and his second, Die Trying, won W H Smith’s Thumbing Good Read Award. His 11 subsequent Reacher novels have all been bestsellers.

Child’s books have sold more than 16 million copies worldwide and per capita, New Zealand out-sells most other markets.

For his part, Justin Brown will be well-known to guests as TV and radio host and bestselling author. His books include UK on a G-String, Teed Off in the USA, Bowling Through India, and the Speak series including Kiwi Speak, Rugby Speak and Cricket Speak. He also writes for animation and has fronted TV programmes.

Paper Plus Books Spokesperson Kerre Woodham will not be playing host for this event, due to a prior engagement. She will instead be pounding the pavement with 35,000 people in the Paris Marathon.

Guests will receive a glass of bubbles on arrival and goody bag, plus have the chance to win some great spot prizes.

All proceeds from the event go towards Paper Plus’ chosen charity, Cure Kids.

About 61 Hours
61 Hours is the heart-stopping 14th new thriller starring today’s most admired action hero, the gallant and enigmatic loner Jack Reacher.

Winter in South Dakota. Blowing snow, icy roads, a tired driver. A bus skids and crashes and is stranded in a gathering storm.

There’s a small town 20 miles away, where a vulnerable witness is guarded around the clock. There’s a strange stone building five miles further on, all alone on the prairie. There’s a ruthless man who controls everything from the warmth of Mexico.

Jack Reacher hitched a ride in the back of the bus. A life without baggage has many advantages. And crucial disadvantages too, when it means facing the arctic cold without a coat. But he is equipped for the rest of his task. He doesn’t want to put the world to rights. He just doesn’t like the people who put it to wrongs.
