MT MAUNGANUI

New Zealand’s leading specialist leaky home law practice, Grimshaw & Co is expanding its business by opening an office in Mt Maunganui.

Established in Auckland in 2005, Grimshaw & Co has an unrivalled track record in both litigation and dispute resolution on behalf of leaky home owners. The firm has acted for bodies corporate, unit owners and individual home owners and achieved excellent outcomes in both the Courts and the Weathertight Homes Tribunal. Grimshaw & Co opened a Wellington office in 2009.

Partner Paul Grimshaw says that the firm’s expansion into the Bay of Plenty has been driven by the large number of proven and potentially leaky homes in the area.

“We are already representing a number of Bay of Plenty leaky home owners via our Auckland office. However, the size of the potential problem in the area and our desire to be ‘hands on’ in the local community has encouraged us to open an office in Mount Maunganui.

“As most New Zealanders are aware, the leaky home crisis is of staggering proportions. Unfortunately, owners of leaky buildings are faced with really tough decisions. In most cases, some form of dispute resolution or litigation is required to make those responsible for the problem pay up.

“The problem is compounded by the fact that the claim process needs to be started within 10 years of the house being built. In some cases, buildings aren’t yet experiencing leaks within that period. Our message to owners is, ‘If you think you could be the owner of a leaky building, act now.’ The checks need to be made and the process started before they lose the right to make that claim,” Mr Grimshaw said.

Grimshaw & Co’s Bay of Plenty office will be headed by Partner, Jane McTavish Butler and Associate, Bryan Easton.
