Te Papa, in association with TelstraClear, is asking the people of New Zealand to send in their personal ANZAC Day images to help with the Museum’s commemoration on Sunday 25 April.
The images will be displayed in Te Papa’s multimedia experience OurSpace, outside the Museum on the TelstraClear OurSpace Screen during ANZAC Day, and also on the OurSpace website.
The images Te Papa are looking for are historical ones, showing how New Zealanders commemorate ANZAC Day. When uploading images to the OurSpace online database, there is also the opportunity for people to share personal stories associated with the images.
The public can take part by visiting ourspace.tepapa.com/login to upload images to the database. The images need to be tagged 'ANZAC', along with a tag that states the location of the photo, to ensure the images are clearly associated and easily searchable online and onsite. A story about the image can be entered in the 'Description' field when uploading.
On 24 April, noted historian Matthew Wright discusses his new book, Behind Enemy Lines – a compilation of exciting Kiwi adventures from behind the lines in World War II. On ANZAC Day, see the Salvation Army Wellington South Band, a special performance of the 1949 hit song Blue Smoke by Shelley Hirini, and Te Papa curators presenting and discussing ANZAC-related objects from the collection that feature in TVNZ6’s Tales from Te Papa.
