AUCKLAND

30 students have won the trip of a lifetime on the Spirit of New Zealand through Gasoline Alley’s “Phil’s Big Kiwi Adventure” promotion, after over 155 schools entered the community-minded essay competition.

Some inspired and creative ideas to improve NZ communities have come through that could really impact on areas throughout “heartland” New Zealand. Examples from winners include community awards, a juice bar for teens, youth centres, and market days.

The Spirit of Adventure Trust is thrilled with the results - and now comes the exciting part. GAS entrepreneur Phil Murray will be getting behind the wheel of his iconic GAS powered Holden ute this week and heading around the country on his “Big Kiwi Adventure” to present the prizes to the winners from each region. He’ll be bringing his trusty trailer full of goodies and giveaways, so you’ll be treated to a snag hot off his barbie, a cold slushy and the chance to grab a spot prize.

Phil’s Big Kiwi Adventure will give the man behind GAS a chance to connect with his heartland NZ customers and see first-hand how the competition has affected each community. Coromandel winner Natalie Bester is bringing her whole family to the presentation party and possibly the whole school, as “everyone is very excited and would like to help me celebrate.”

About Phil’s Big Kiwi Adventure

Petrol retailer Gasoline Alley is giving 30 New Zealand teens the adventure of a lifetime by sending them on a Spirit of New Zealand voyage. To win, teenagers aged 15-18 have written a 300-word essay entitled “One big idea that will make our community a better place to live in,” and the winners have been selected by region. Throughout April, Phil Murray will be taking a road trip around the country in his Holden ute, handing out freebies, hosting sausage sizzles at GAS stations, and presenting the prizes to the lucky recipient from each town.
