Drivers are urged to exercise extreme care on newly opened roads as they may have been damaged by flood water and debris. Some roads still remain closed. "Don't assume that because the water is gone the road is now safe," Southland District Council spokesman Peter Thompson said.

Te Anau is accessible via Manapouri, even though the state highway is closed because the Whitestone Bridge is out.

Please note: The Metservice is predicting rain in the Te Anau / Manapouri and catchment areas (Westland, Fiordland etc) from tomorrow morning. This could cause lake levels to rise which may impact Te Anau and surrounding areas.
