With only five more meetings to go, Council continues to work at getting the best result for Franklin residents

Among the items considered at the Franklin District Council meeting (held on 29 April) were results for the first 9 months of the financial year and a tidy up process for the District Plan. After the meeting, Mayor Mark Ball commented “With elections for the new Auckland Council scheduled for 9 October, we only have five full Council meetings scheduled before we go out of existence. It is important that we do everything we can to leave the District in the best possible shape for the future.”

Results for the year to 31 March 2010
Council considered the financial and non-financial results for the first 9 months of the current financial year. Highlights included:

  • · A forecast that the $46.5m capital expenditure budget for the year will be 96% complete by the end of June
  • · That of the 171 performance measures contained in the Long Term Plan, 149 have been achieved (or are still in progress), and only 17 have not been achieved.


Grant for Waka Ama o Waiuku
Council approved a grant of $1,000 to help support six Waiuku athletes compete at the World Waka Ama Championships in New Caledonia.

District Plan Tidy Up
Council started the process which will allow the first steps to a tidy up the operative District Plan to begin. Public notification of the proposed changes will begin in May, with decisions due to be completed by October.
Changes include:

  • · Population statistic updates
  • · Additions to the plan include historic buildings, structures and trees on public land
  • · Updated references to institutions which have changed since 2000, when the plan first became operative
  • · Removal of outdated information
  • · Updated references to current legislation.
