Bridge and roads closed

Three roads remain closed in the Central Southland area because of flooding.

West Plains Taramoa Road, between Horwell and Taramoa Roads, is closed and Cox Road is closed between Collinson and Pullar Roads, Southland District Council area engineers manager Peter Thompson said. Contractors are working on clearing a blockage on Cox Road.

Meanwhile, the Benmore Stockbridge Road remains closed because further inspection is required to determine the stability of the bridge piles. This cannot happen until water levels have dropped further and so the bridge will be blocked with barriers.
