Tennis Auckland Prizegiving
New Zealand women’s No1 Sacha Jones was named Tennis Auckland Player of the Year and Cockle Bay the Club of the Year at the prizegiving awards last night.
Jones, 19 reached a career high ranking of 157 earlier this year, winning four consecutive ITF tournaments and becoming the nations top player for the first time. She is currently recovering from an injury. The junior male player of the year went to Adam Lee, who is the national champion from the Pompallier club while Imogen Golder from Mission Bay who is now on a scholarship at Purdue University in the United States was the girls junior player of the year.
The Junior Interclub Club of the Year was won by Campbell Park with the senior award going to Jellicoe Park in Manurewa. The overall Auckland Club of the Year was awarded to Cockle Bay Tennis Club in Pakuranga who improved their facilities as well as gained a large number of new members and showed improved organisation and administration. A total of 34 clubs out of 46 possible entrants gained awards.
