PALMERSTON NORTH

Two of rugby league’s best known figures are coming to Palmerston North.

The New Zealand Rugby League Community Roots Camp hits Arena Manawatu on Wednesday May 19, with the opportunity to meet league legend Ruben Wiki and to see the Rugby League World Cup.

The Camp will kick off at 3.30pm and include free skills modules for players, coaches and officials to take part in.

Mike Haddon from Manawatu Rugby League says, “at 3.30pm we’ve got a skills component which is designed to give children of all ages a taste of various league skills and drills.”

“At 5:30pm the coaching and officiating modules begin, so there is something for the whole family. No previous playing, coaching or officiating is required, and it’s all free!”

Sport Manawatu’s sport development advisor, Stuart Savage, thinks the camp is a fantastic opportunity.

“The community roots camp will be a great event for any junior players, coaches, parents and volunteers interested or involved in rugby league. It gives a great opportunity for the local community to gain a ‘free’ coaching qualification to get them started and involved in coaching rugby league.

“On top of that there is the amazing opportunity to meet former Kiwi Captain Ruben Wiki and to have your picture taken with the rugby league world cup!”

If you are interested in taking part in the community camp head to ground three at Arena Manawatu at either 3.30pm for the children’s skills module or 5.30pm for the adults coaching and officiating module, there is no need to register.
