As part of NZ Music Month music fans get to pick their 12 favourite NZ indie artists for a digital compilation. By visiting musichype.com music fans can listen to 40 tracks and create their own digital mix tape by dragging and dropping the entries. With 40 artists participating in the NZ Indie Mix Tape competition fans will have a tough time picking only 12 favourites!

The NZ Indie Mix Tape competition is supported by the New Zealand Music Commission (NZMC), Independent Music New Zealand (IMNZ), Mr. Vintage and 2degrees mobile.

Fans have seven days to visit www.musichype.com and push their 12 favourite indie tracks up the charts. Every vote a MusicHy.pe member places puts them in the draw for either a huge Music Month prize pack or a fancy new 2degrees Nokia Express Music handset loaded up with the NZ Indie Mix Tape tunes.

Online voting finishes 5pm Sunday 23 May. The 12 finalists are announced Monday 24th May and featured on a custom made USB stick in the shape of a mix tape, as well as being pressed on a limited edition LP.

The NZ Indie Mix Tape compilation celebrates independent NZ labels and artists breaking into the music scene. The 40 artists competing for the top 12 spots reflect the diversity of NZ music with tracks from Dunedin's 4 piece electro indie-rock outfit Knives at Noon, Wellington based hip hop artist Tommy Ill, funk/soul/jazz singer Iva Lamkum, synth-pop band Alex the Kid, Auckland girl punk-rockers Cat Venom, and alt-county group Night Choir formed by the rhythm section of Pluto.

“We are thrilled with the artists who've submitted their tracks to our NZ Indie Mix Tape Competition. They've far surpassed our expectations with their breadth and quality. Everyone in the office has got a few new favourite bands we're keeping tabs on, “ says Annabel Youens, MusicHy.pe Digital Strategist.

MusicHy.pe is also running a competition for designers to have their artwork featured on the limited edition LP and t-shirt. After the highly successful Mint Chicks t-shirt competition and winning 'Tiger T-shirt' by Bonnie Wroe, NZ artists have been asking for another competition to flex their creative muscles. Artists have until May 26th to upload their NZ Indie Mix Tape themed design. After a round of community voting the winner will be featured on the limited edition LP and the official NZ Indie Mix Tape t-shirt produced by Mr. Vintage. The winner also walks away with a cut of the entry fee and t-shirt sales.

MusicHy.pe is a Wellington-based start up who offer a managed promotional platform for artists and labels. They make online artist promotions a richer experience for fans, while being easy, effective and profitable for labels and artists. Currently in Beta, MusicHy.pe is testing their new technology in New Zealand before moving onto a major North American launch.
