Manawatu District briefs
A PROPOSED sculpture, over-chlorinated water and a rates reminder comprise the latest collection of Manawatu District briefs.
Sculpture competition still open
SCULPTURE designers have 12 more days to submit entries in a Feilding Promotion Inc-Manawatu District Council competition to find an appropriate eye-catching feature in Fergusson Street. The sculpture, part of the Feilding Townscape programme, aims to link Manfeild Park and Kowhai Park precincts to the Feilding CBD to encourage increased visitor numbers to the town centre. Any member of the public can enter the competition that closes on May 31 with a $1000 cash prize for the winning design. Full details are available from the Feilding and District Information Centre or email to manager@feilding.co.nz
Himatangi Beach water supply clear
HIMATANGI Beach’s water supply is back to normal after an electrical fault with the bore pump at the town’s water treatment plant resulted in an overdose of chlorine entering the system late last week and creating a strong smell. Water Manager, Wayne Spencer, said the water was still safe to drink but the high dosage did affect some people in different ways. “We have now put some processes in place that will minimise the risk of it happening again,” he said.
Rates: Final day looming
THE last day for payment of the third and final instalment of the Manawatu District Council’s 2009-10 rates is Friday (May 21). A 10 percent penalty will apply to the outstanding balance of the instalment as at Saturday (May 22) unless a prior direct debit arrangement has been made with council. Anyone paying by automatic payment is urged to ensure their payments are sufficient to clear the remaining balance due by tomorrow.
