Temuka River dropping, and bridges both open, 10 am May 26, 2010

Environment Canterbury advises that the Temuka River is dropping and there is no current threat to Temuka township. Both bridges are open.

People have been ringing the Civil Defence emergency operations centres locally concerned about the river and the surrounding land.

The river peaked at 5.30 am this morning at 564 cumecs (cubic metres of water per second) and is now at 481 cumecs and slowly dropping, said Environment Canterbury Flood Controller Philip Lees.

“Environment Canterbury is monitoring the river as more rain is forecast for today,” he said.
