With submissions for the draft Annual Plan now completed the council will be deliberating on outcomes during the month in time for the beginning of the new financial year on July 1.

This year’s draft Annual Plan has attracted 92 submissions on a range of topics with

about 20 submitters addressing the council at hearings held in Pahiatua and Dannevirke.

Opposition to a proposal to merge the Pahiatua Information Centre with the service centre has emerged as an issue in nearly half of the submissions.

Also of significance was the state of the town’s water supply in Pahiatua with calls – or support for – council moves to upgrade its quality.

A Statement of Proposal for the sale of three sections in Thyra St Dannevirke and elderly housing units in Ormondville and Norsewood due to a lack of consistent tenancy has also drawn support.

Calls for a rates review came from rural residents including Tararua Federated Farmers advocating an increase of the Uniform General Charge and questioning the current allocation of the general rate along with the impact of rate increases for the next financial year.

The council was asked by the Tararua Positive Ageing Forum to consider the establishment of Outdoor Gyms in the district.

The state of the Coast Road at Akitio and the delivery of the contract was questioned by a local resident.
Included in a submission from Pongaroa Way To Go was a request that the annual funding of $5,000 be continued.

Mayor Maureen Reynolds thanked those who took the time to make a submission and also those who came to the hearings.
