An illuminating theatrical experience featuring one of the world’s masters of physical theatre is set to help Cantabrians shake-off the shackles of winter this July.

Internationally acclaimed physical theatre creator Wolfe Bowart is bringing his heart warming production, LaLaLuna, to the South Island exclusively for a whirlwind two week tour through Dunedin, Invercargill and Nelson and will also light up Christchurch’s Isaac Theatre Royal as part of TV2 Kidsfest.

Christchurch shows will be on Friday 16 July (evening) and again on Saturday 17 July (2 shows – morning and late afternoon). Tickets are available now from Ticketek from $19.50 for children and $34.50 for adults (excluding booking fees). Excellent Family, Group, Senior and Student concessions are also available.

LaLaLuna is a whimsical, funny tale of the moon’s caretaker as he struggles to re-light the darkened lunar body. It weaves together comedy and circus, stage illusion, film and sound in a largely wordless mix that captivates audiences of ages 6 to 96.

LaLaLuna was first performed in NZ in 2008 as part of Hamilton’s FUEL Festival, where it played to capacity houses. Wolfe Bowart has since toured LaLaLuna to Hong Kong, Greece, the UK and Brazil.

In Australia, LaLaLuna has undertaken two national tours as well as seasons at the Adelaide Festival and the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, where The Melbourne Age newspaper proclaimed LaLaLuna "luminously inventive and magically silly … Wolfe Bowart’s show about the night the light went out in the moon will have you howling with laughter at the dark circle in the sky."

Later this year LaLaLuna will perform at the 20th anniversary edition of Austria’s Festival der Träume, the eminent European clown theatre festival.

Christchurch’s Isaac Theatre Royal General Manager Neil Cox says audiences will be enchanted by LaLaLuna.

"It’s a show that will really lift people’s spirits in mid winter and challenge their perception of what theatre is all about... Bowart is respected worldwide and LaLaLuna is an amazing opportunity to see him perform his art," Mr Cox says.
