Talented musicians have just one more week to apply for City Showcase, the live musical extravaganza taking place in Napier from 25-28 November 2010.

With nine successful years under its belt City Showcase has taken over the streets of London seeking to uncover new musical stars.

Now, for the first time, the event is also being held outside the UK, with Napier being selected as the 2010 City Showcase – Spotlight New Zealand venue.

As a part of City Showcase, Spotlight - New Zealand, new and emerging musicians will be given the opportunity to perform at gigs in and around Napier’s Art Deco city centre. The event culminates in an audience led competition – Finding the Future - with the ultimate winner scoring a trip to play City Showcase in Hong Kong or London in May 2011. The winner will also perform at the Mission Winery Concert in 2011.

Speaking from the UK, City Showcase organiser Nanette Rigg said the response from Kiwi and Australian musicians was “massive”, and she urged others keen to enter, to do so now, to avoid disappointment.

Ms Rigg said that applications could either be made through Sonicbids or to a postal address in Napier.

The event is designed to showcase the talent of new musicians and allows a platform for artists to perform to both the public and the cream of the New Zealand music industry.

Finding the Future programme will give solo artists, bands, songwriters or those interested in the music business, the opportunity to put their questions to a panel of music industry experts.

A judging panel made up of leaders from the music industry will be in Napier to judge the competition and the public will also have the chance to vote.

The judging panel will include Campbell Smith (CEO of The Recording Industry Association of New Zealand Inc (RIANZ), who also has his own Management Company, CRS Music Management Limited), Ian James (Managing Director, Mushroom Music Publishing, Australia and recipient of a Midem Masters Award) and Mike Chunn (CEO of the Play It Strange Trust which implements music programmes for New Zealand school and former member of the New Zealand bands Split Enz and Citizen Band)

City Showcase is a non-profit organisation and has been launching new musical talent in the UK since 2003.

Ms Rigg announced that City Showcase was delighted to have the support of spirits giant Jägermeister.

“This sponsorship deal confirms Jägermeister as a truly global brand with the company already a much appreciated sponsor of City Showcase London.”

The event is widely recognised as being one of the most diverse and high profile festivals in the world with over 200 musicians performing in central London in 2009, covering a range of musical genres.
