SKYCITY’s hottest bar, twentyone, is presenting Che Fu with The Kratez THIS Thursday night 1 July. Entry to the gig is free with entertainment starting at 7pm.

New Zealand Hip Hop, entertainer, singer, songwriter, producer Che-Fu & The Kratez are travelling to Niue for The Niuean Festival 2011. In conjunction with twentyone this free public performance is the first in a series of events by Che-Fu & The Kratez to highlight The Niuean Festival 2011 and promote participation.

Che was a founding member of the legendary local band Supergroove. Responsible for a string of what have gone on to become classic kiwi anthems, Supergroove generated a staggering 6 top 10 hits throughout the 90s. Among the singles were, ‘Sitting inside my head’, ‘Can’t get enough’ and ‘You gotta know’.

Che’s debut solo album ‘2b S.Pacific’ was released in 1997. ‘Chains’ went straight to number one on the New Zealand singles charts, and stayed there for five consecutive weeks. ‘Chains’ reached platinum sales and was the landmark single that brought New Zealand Hip Hop to mass attention.

In 2001, Che released the follow-up album ‘Navigator’. ‘Navigator’ debuted at number one, stayed there for three successive weeks and achieved four times platinum. It featured the singles ‘Fade away’, ‘Random’, and the APRA Silver Scroll winning ‘Misty frequencies’.

Che Fu released ‘HI – Score : The Best Of Che-Fu’ August 25 2006. The ‘Best Of’ featured singles from Che’s three solo albums and well as four new tracks. One of these new releases ‘Chains Reloaded’ was a remix of his number one hit single ‘Chains’ and featured P-Money & Savage. ‘Chains Reloaded’ hit radio in July 2006, marking the 10 year anniversary of when the original ‘Chains’ debuted at number one in 1996.

In 2009 Che was presented the New Zealand Order of Merit by the Governor General. Che has had the most top 10 singles in New Zealand and has won most awards attainable in New Zealand and a handful internationally. In addition he became the first ‘New Zealand hologram’, performing with his hologram self at Vector Arena for TelstraClear.

Free, live music is now on every Thursday night at twentyone (located on level three of the SKYCITY complex). Over the last several months SKYCITY has drawn the crowds to the bar presenting Anna Coddington, Opensouls, Jason Kerrison with T*B*C (The Babysitter’s Club), Pluto, Tike Tanne and Cornerstone Roots with plenty more top gigs in the pipeline.
