Hastings Company Mackersey Construction has been selected from six local companies to build Hastings District Council’s new Customer Service Centre.

Customer Service Project sponsor Mike Maguire says he’s thrilled this $1.4M contract could go to a Hastings company at a time when there isn’t a lot of work around for the local building industry.

“We were really pleased with both the quality and competitiveness of the tenders we received. We are looking forward to having Mackersey on site this week,” Mr Maguire says.

Mr Maguire says there have been some temporary changes to where Council delivers its ground floor services and how people access the building.

“However, this is a necessary step toward providing an improved level of customer service to our citizens.”

Wayne Birchall, Managing Director for Mackersey Construction, says “it is a privilege and a pleasure to be the Contractor selected to undertake this very prestigious project. Mackersey Construction will ensure that the project is carried out professionally, safely and to the highest of standards ensuring the disruption to the Council and Public alike is kept to a minimum.”

Access to the building will soon be restricted to the carpark entrance on the eastern side of the Civic Building. Access to the second floor, for Building and Resource consents will still be via the ground floor stairs or lifts.

Customers can still pay their rates, apply for a rates rebate, register their dog or pay a parking fine on the ground floor; however payments will need to be made in the Council Chamber foyer.

All changes to public access will be clearly sign posted.

“We want to thank our customers in advance for being patient during construction and we will endeavour to make the transition as smooth as possible for people who visit us,” Mr Maguire says.
