56 through to Day 2 at the NZPT Queenstown – SKYCITY Alpine Adventure

With Day 1a and Day 1b complete at the New Zealand Poker Tour Queenstown – SKYCITY Alpine Adventure, 56 players have gone through to Day 2 of the event which kicked off today (Friday 23 July) at 12.30pm.

Day 1a started out with 38 players including last year’s winner of the tournament Danny Chevalier and New Zealand’s greatest poker player, Lee ‘Final Table’ Nelson. The 38 players only had to play through five levels before the field was down to 24 players heading through to Day 2.

Leading the pack is South African born Australian resident Michael Spilkin who was chip leader for most of the day ending with an impressive 103,925 in chips. Coming behind him was Mishel Anunu from Australia with 78,450 in chips and in third place, kiwi Lee ‘Final Table’ Nelson with 37,700 in chips.

Day 1b saw the remaining 43 players from the total field of 119 players taking to the tables to try and make it into today’s Day 2. Within the Day 1b field was Australian players and winner of the NZPT series of 2009: Tony Hachem; SKYCITY New Zealand Poker Open winner Jackson Zheng; and fresh from poker heaven in Las Vegas, Simon Watt who became the first kiwi to win a World Series of Poker bracelet.

Day 1b played for five levels leaving 32 of the 42 players to go through to Day 2. From the 82 players who competed in Day 1a and Day 1b in Queenstown, 56 players made it through including Lee ‘Final Table’ Nelson, chip leader Jackson Zheng and Tony Hachem.

Leaving the field is Simon Watt who busted out in the last level of Day 1b crushing his hopes at a fresh victory at the NZPT Queenstown – SKYCITY Alpine Adventure.
