70 nominees for local elections
Nominations are in and all District Council seats are to be contested at the upcoming elections. Whakatane District Council electoral official Janie Storey has confirmed that all council seats will be contested, but there will be no elections for the Murupara and Rangitiaki Community Board.
Six candidates were nominated to fill the six vacancies on each of these community board therefore elections will not be required as these candidates will be duly elected, said Mrs Storey.
70 nominations were received six candidates for Mayoralty, 30 for councillors and 34 Community Board members.
