The global brand ambassador for Casa Herradura, Ruben Aceves shared his knowledge in a series of Master Classes on Mexico’s most famous export – tequila.

More than 140 bar and hospitality staff attended one of the Casa Herradura Tequila Master Classes in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch on 17, 18 and 19 of August respectively.

During the Tequila Master Classes trade learnt about the history and production of tequila and were treated to a tasting of over 11 tequila styles, including the pride of Casa Herradura – Seleccion Suprema, a superior tequila aged for over 4 years.

New Zealand brand manager for Casa Herradura, Rebecca Wilson says the popularity of the classes demonstrates that trade are eager to learn more about the tequila category.

“It was great to see that there is growing interest from New Zealand bartenders in learning about serving and enjoying quality tequila,” says Rebecca.

“We are starting to move away from our previous assumptions about consuming tequila to viewing it as a premium spirit, like a bourbon or cognac.”

Based in Guadalajara, Mexico, Ruben Aceves serves as Director, International Brand Development for Casa Herradura and is recognised as one of the world’s leading tequila experts.

Since its establishment in 1870, Casa Herradura has achieved international recognition for the quality of its 100% blue agave tequilas, including 33 medals from global spirit competitions. Still produced on the original estate in Mexico, Casa Herradura is also home to el Jimador Tequila, the country’s number one selling tequila.
