RON SCOTT TO STAND FOR DHB

Ron Scott has announced he is a candidate for the District Health Board in the upcoming election. He is the first candidate to announce his intention to stand.

“I am concerned that the DHB is failing in three out of five targets set by the Ministry of Health – and it’s the young and the old who are most affected by this failure” he said.

“The hard working front line staff at hospitals are always praised by patients once patients are actually admitted. The problem is getting sick people the hospital care they need quickly. Our focus must be on those young and elderly people who need hospital care sooner rather than later to avoid longer term problems. We must also prioritise measures to help more people avoid needing health care in the first place. These are the very areas (immunisation, stop smoking programmes and cardio care) where the DHB is failing.”[1]

Ron Scott is a director of Stellaris Ltd which works with people who have had life-changing accidents to re-establish them in jobs or self employment. He is a trustee of TECT and Treasurer of BaySET which assists elderly with their energy needs over the tough winter months. Ron is a former member of the University of Waikato Council, member of Institute of Directors and Treasurer of HRINZ Bay of Plenty branch.

He is a plain talking economist who can explain to Central Government the funding implications of rapidly rising population on the health needs of the Bay of Plenty.
