CHRISTCHURCH

Pulzar FM is stoked to announce their return to the Christchurch airwaves on 105.7 FM.

Our building was damaged by the 7.1 magnitude quake on Saturday the 4th of September. Then after power was cut to the inner city, the station went off air. After briefly returning on Saturday, when Andy Pulzar ventured into the cordon to turn the power and equipment back on – another further setback was suffered when electricity was cut on late Sunday.

With building access forbidden, the powers that be, graciously allowed Pulzar FM’s technical manager access to the Sugarloaf transmitter site, where he installed a temporary music source on Monday afternoon.

New Media Integration:

On the afternoon of the quake, a music playlist was quickly assembled, and Andy Pulzar quickly voiced 3 quake related messages (recorded directly onto his mobile phone). These messages have been broadcast across Christchurch, directing listeners to our Facebook page. By communicating with our 3500 followers on Facebook, we’ve been able to assist many Christchurch listeners, while helping promote the noble actions of many Cantab’s in some of Christchurch’s hardest hit areas. The Facebook page was updated 3 to 4 times a day, to keep our listeners up to speed.

Fighting Spirit:

While two other tenants have left Pulzar Towers, property manager 51 Plus have done everything in their power to get us up and running, as quickly as possible. And while buildings, including our original studio in Manchester Courts (corner Manchester and Hereford) are set to be demolished, we’ll be doing everything we can to keep the music rolling – and at the same time, keeping everyone entertained. And with the announcers back, quake info will be coming thick and fast, and of course, the music will take people’s minds off the quake, easing them back into normality.

Andy Poulsen – Station Manager stated today “After almost eleven years in the radio game, the last two weeks have been the most trying we have experienced... But Pulzar FM is back on 105.7 FM, and the future is looking great!”
