CANTERBURY

Free trips for life are on offer from Banks Peninsula tourism operator Black Cat Cruises who are searching for passengers from their first trips in October 1985.

The company celebrates twenty five years of operation next month and as part of its celebration activities hopes to find the first passengers who cruised on Akaroa Harbour on the company’s first vessel, the Charmaine, in October 1985.

“It was very humble beginnings,” Black Cat Cruises Managing Director Paul Bingham said.

“We had four customers on our first cruise on October the 20th 1985, and 14 for our first week. We average over 2000 a week now across Lyttelton and Akaroa, but we hope to be able to celebrate 25 years in business with some of our very first customers who will also get free cruises for the rest of their lives”

The company is having a special 25th anniversary cruise at 1985 prices in Akaroa on Wednesday 20 October at 11am with all the proceeds going to help rebuild the War Memorial in Akaroa damaged in the recent earthquake.

“We plan to cruise like it’s 1985 on our special birthday cruise. Not only will it be priced at 1985 but we will be celebrating with free champagne and food on board and will be giving away 25th birthday T shirts, caps and badges.”

The company has high hopes the trip will include some of it first customers from October 1985.
