Worker struck by crane boom, transported to hospital by helicopter

PARAPARAUMU

The Wellington based Westpac rescue helicopter has transported a 22 year
old Wellington man to hospital this morning after he was struck by a
crane boom while unloading a truck.

The helicopter, with two Wellington Free Ambulance paramedics on board
responded to the incident near the Paraparaumu landfill at approximately
9.15am this morning.

"We understand that the injured man was assisting the unloading of a
truck when it's crane became jammed" said helicopter crewman Colin
Larsen. "As he went to investigate further the crane boom freed itself,
striking him in the head".

On arrival of the helicopter the patient was being treated for facial
injuries by Wellington Free Ambulance paramedics. He was transferred to
the helicopter and transported to the Wellington Hospital Emergency
Department, where he is undergoing further assessment and treatment for
his injuries.
