Following the adoption of the Maori Policy 2010 of the Wairoa District Council it has been decided to consult further with the 37 marae of the district on a selection process for the Maori Standing Committee. The interim Maori Standing Committee and the Maori Liaison Officer of the Wairoa District Council will be holding eight (8) meetings in different areas around the district over the months of October & November 2010 to discuss the selection process with the marae.

Natural groupings of marae within the eight areas will be invited to attend the meetings. It is hoped that strong consultation can be engaged with the 37 marae to support the whanau, hapu and Iwi to have stronger input to the decision making processes of the Wairoa District Council. Letters are being prepared for release to the Marae trustees, and times and dates will released in the Wairoa Star.
