QUEENSTOWN

If you’re in the audience, expect nothing less than a blasting of stardust from the glittering array of acts booked to perform at the ASB Jazz Club for this year’s ASB Queenstown JazzFest (21-24 October).

Ticket holders can enjoy world-class entertainment in the resort’s glitziest transformed venue, as glamorous divas and gleaming brass bands put on a series of show-stopping concerts each night over Labour Weekend.

Holiday celebrations begin with the Festival Opening Gala on Thursday 21, featuring a tribute line up to Queenstown’s ‘first lady of song’ and the muso herself, Margaret O’Hanlon. Friday 22 brings one of the nation’s most celebrated female vocalists, Erna Ferry, to the stage to perform the songs of Peggy Lee. She’s followed by heavy weights Bill Cunliffe, Bob Sheppard, and the Rodger Fox Big Band who’ll bring a knock-out Big Band Concert. Saturday 23 and songstress Kiri Winders, accompanied by her 1940 Jazz Club, steal the spotlight and take hip-swingers on a trip down memory lane.

Queenstown JazzFest Trust chairman Luke Baldock said this year’s four big-ticketed events at the ASB Jazz Club would showcase only the cream of the crop.

“Each night at the ASB Jazz Club will be a roof lifting, sensational evening of entertainment,” he said. “We are thrilled to welcome Bill Cunliffe back from the US after his outstanding performance here in 2007. Bill, joined by fellow compatriot Bob Sheppard and New Zealand’s very own Rodger Fox is likely to make the Big Band Concert one of the big highlights of the festival.”

Advance bookings are strongly recommended with limited seating available for each act.

The ASB Queenstown JazzFest is Queenstown’s major springtime event. It brings music to the masses in a 5-day live music celebration from 21 to 25 October. The 32nd annual festival has a sensational line-up of more than 50 bands and 150 Kiwi and international performers.

Full details of all ticketed concerts and free gigs are available in the ASB Queenstown JazzFest programme, which is available at ASB branches in Queenstown and Remarkables Park. For online information on musicians go to www.asbjazzfest.co.nz
