Supported by Waitaki District Council and the Waitaki Development Board, Irrigation NZ is coming to Oamaru in October to deliver a workshop programme. The programme will assist communities to develop quality irrigation systems and manage irrigation.

This year’s programme focuses on reducing energy bills through pump efficiency and the launch of the Farmers Guide to Successful Irrigation Design and Installation.

Water is a valuable resource. With increasing competition for water, constraints such as annual allocation limits are becoming tighter. Expectations of the irrigation performance are rising.

Irrigators and prospective irrigators, need to be aware of three things, what good design is, the costs of poor design and what to look out for when operating the system.

Poor design causes higher energy and labour costs and large production losses.

The IrrigationNZ road show will be held on Thursday 14 October 2010 at the Lower Waitaki Golf Club, Hilderthorpe Road, Oamaru.

The programme will include farmer case studies relevant to Waitaki. Each workshop will end with a question and answer session. The programme has been developed with the support of EECA, Agmardt and Fonterra.

More information and the full programme for the Waitaki workshop can be found at www.irrigationnz.co.nz.
