Author Max Cryer is visiting the Invercargill Public Library Thursday at noon on October 14 to promote his new book “Who Said That First?”.

Invercargill City Libraries Outreach Librarian Kirsty Graham said the free event was open to all and would feature Mr Cryer talking about his book which delves into identifying the original sources of common expressions.

“We are excited to have Mr Cryer visit to promote his book.

“We anticipate that it will be extremely popular event for the people of Invercargill especially those who are interested in where sayings and quirky quotes come from,” Ms Graham said.

Cryer is a writer, entertainer and broadcaster, who hosts a weekly radio slot on Radio Live, on the quirks of the English language.

In this book, he explores the origins of hundreds of expressions people use and hear every day – and comes up with some surprising findings.

In a long career, Cryer has been a schoolteacher, a compere and television host, as well as a performer on the opera stage in London and in cabaret in Las Vegas and Hollywood. Now a full-time writer living in Auckland, he has written many books, including “Love Me Tender”, “The Godzone Dictionary” and “Hear Our Voices, We Entreat”.
