2010 World Rowing Championships

It’s getting busy at Lake Karapiro as more teams arrive in New Zealand for the 2010 World Rowing Championships.

Teams from Greece, the Netherlands and Switzerland arrived this week. All have made arrangements for training camps at different locations in New Zealand.

The Greek team is spending a few days at Lake Karapiro, getting to know the water and the venue. From 18 October, the team will be based at Bay Coast Rowing Club in Tauranga. Club members are arranging to tow the visitors’ boats to Tauranga for the eight day training camp.

The 44 strong team from the Netherlands are based at Wairakei Resort in Taupo until 28 October, training at Lake Maraetai.

And the Swiss team, under head coach and former Great Britain Olympic gold medallist Tim Foster, arrive today and will also be training on Lake Maraetai. The Swiss are staying at Mangakino until 28 October.

Athletes and officials from the Netherlands, Switzerland and Poland have been invited to a Civic Reception at Taupo Town Hall on 22 October.

Due in next is the first group from the Canadian team and advance team management staff for Belarus, France, Great Britain and Poland.
