During the School Holidays the TAG (Totally Against Graffiti) team came together to “clean up” the Oamaru Harbourside for the annual Keep New Zealand beautiful project day.

Armed with gloves and rubbish bags the volunteers picked up rubbish along the wharf and parking area. “We were quite surprised at how much rubbish we found.” TAG coordinator Esther Dupu said. “We had lots of fun doing the clean up. It is quite neat to see young people develop pride in their town.”

‘Totally Against Graffiti’ is a committee formed by coordinator Esther Dupu and students from local schools. Together they identify and implement initiatives to educate the wider community about the costs and consequences of Graffiti. The group meets once a month to plan events and workshops.

The group works on beautification projects around Oamaru. For their next project they hope to enter the Resene Mural Masterpiece competition for best community mural.
