NZ On Air is getting behind the Canterbury region by funding the live broadcast of Band Together: Concert for Canterbury.

This free 8-hour concert to be held on Labour weekend Saturday 23rd October will be broadcast on TV3 with production investment from NZ On Air. “Paul Ellis and Opshop's Jason Kerrison have done amazing work in bringing top NZ musicians to Christchurch for the live event,” said NZ On Air chief executive Jane Wrightson. “By providing broadcast funding NZ On Air is helping invite all New Zealanders to the concert”.

With featured artists ranging from Bic Runga to The Dukes, Band Together will also be a celebration of New Zealand music. “2010 is NZ On Air’s 21st year, and NZ Music has always been a key focus for NZ On Air" said Ms Wrightson, “Most of the headline acts of Band Together have received strong support over the years from NZ On Air and we’re all pleased to get in behind one of the biggest music events ever held in New Zealand.”

Band Together will also be simulcast on a number of radio and television stations. “We wanted to make sure that as many people as possible were able to take part in this event,” said event organiser Paul Ellis.“We’re really grateful that NZ On Air has responded so quickly to ensure that Band Together will be enjoyed nationwide”, he said.
