CHRISTCHURCH

German technology company SRM, inventors of the mobile bicycle PowerMeter, today launched their Oceania Service Center in Christchurch. The launch attracted some of New Zealand’s elite SRM users including double Olympic medalist, Commonwealth medalist and Pro Tour rider Hayden Roulston, and Commonwealth silver-medal-winning pursuiters Sam Bewley and Marc Ryan.

“SRM’s move to New Zealand is further endorsement of New Zealand’s reputation as a hotbed for cycling and triathlon talent,” says Corey Williams, General Manager of the Oceania Service Center.

SRM Founder Uli Schoberer says, “We have a long-time relationship with cycling and triathlon federations, athletes and scientists in New Zealand and Australia. With the fast growing community of cycling enthusiasts we are coming closer to our customers to provide the service they deserve.”

Numerous professional athletes use SRM Training Systems including Julian Dean, Hayden Roulston, Greg Henderson, Tim Gudsell, Sam Bewley, Lance Armstrong, Mark Cavendish, Michael Rogers, Fabian Cancellara, Levi Leipheimer, and Normann Stadler.

The SRM Training System measures and displays real time power, cadence, speed, distance, time, heart rate, altitude, mechanical energy, training zones and temperature with reliability and accuracy that is unmatched in the cycling industry.

“SRM is a critical part of my training and racing as it gives me valuable information for developing training programmes and competition strategies, which helps me increase my performance on the bike,” says Hayden Roulston who cemented his world class status in his silver-medal-winning performance in the 168km road race at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi on Monday.

The SRM Oceania Service Center will provide sales and service in New Zealand and Australia to athletes and institutions testing, training and racing with SRM.

Former professional cyclist Craig Thomson will head up SRM’s technical division. He says, “This is great for the local cycling scene. SRM systems are being used by all the best riders and teams in the world and it’s quickly being accepted as the ‘benchmark’ for power measurement, and power is something all athletes across all sports aim to improve.”

SRM is an official supplier to Team RadioShack, Team HTC Columbia, Team Astana, Team Saxo Bank, Team Liquigas Doimo, Team Milram and USA Cycling. SRM is based in Jülich, Germany, with offices in Colorado Springs, Colo., USA, Lucca, Italy and now Christchurch, New Zealand.
