An online A to Z Waste Guide on how to reduce, reuse, recycle and dispose of waste
in Southland has just been released by WasteNet Southland.

“This new guide replaces the 2007 edition of the Southland Resource Directory -
Waste” said Invercargill City Council’s Senior Waste Minimisation Officer Donna
Peterson.

“Councils receive a number of inquiries from the public about what to do with waste
products such as old fridges, computers or television sets.

“The A to Z waste guide provides Southlanders with the answer at the click of a
button.

“The online guide provides up-to-date information and suggestions on how to reduce,
reuse and recycle the unwanted product,” Ms Peterson said.

In addition the guide includes links to Southland businesses that provide alternative
products, or accept items for reuse, recycling and disposal.

Ms Peterson said that an advantage of having the guide online is that it can be easily
updated, especially when new alternatives or recycling options become available.

For residents with limited internet access, a hard copy version of the waste guide will
be available before Christmas, Ms Peterson said.

The A to Z Waste Guide was developed by WasteNet Southland in collaboration with
Environment Southland and Venture Southland.

WasteNet Southland is a joint committee of the three local authorities, Invercargill
City Council, Southland District Council and Gore District Council.
