INVERCARGILL

The Subway-Avanti Pro Cycling team were second in the opening team time trial at the Powernet Tour of Southland this morning.

The team of six riders held the lead right until the final team crossed the line.

Team Manager Hayden Godfrey said it was a very pleasing effort.

“The team rode well together, stuck to the plan and is now well positioned and set up for the rest of race,” he said.

The Hayden Roulston led Calder Stewart BikeNZ team were last off the start line and were the only team to beat the Subway – Avanti team, finishing 11 seconds ahead of their nine minute 58 second time.

This afternoon's 81 kilometre stage starts at 1pm and takes the 114-strong field out of Invercargill and then back through the city before heading down to Bluff the tough Bluff Hill climb.
