Repairs start this week on the Ohope Hall following flood damage in June this year. The repairs at a cost of $200,000 include the installation of a new drainage system to improve drainage under the hall.

The Council Manager Community Projects Barbara Dempsey says repairs will see the relining of the Hall’s lower walls, relaying a new floor and finishing the floor. The works are expected to be complete in time for the anniversary weekend in January 2011.

“While there was a desire to repair this hall as soon as possible it was important to allow the ground under the hall time to dry out. The subfloor space needs to be well ventilated and excess moisture removed as this can affect the performance and durability of the timber floor”.
