Michael Appleby a Wellington Barrister was re-elected leader at the 15th AGM of the Aotearoa Legalise Cannabis Party. He is the longest serving current leader of a political party in New Zealand. The ALCP has also contested every election and by-election since the introduction of MMP.

Mr Appleby reminded Party members that the Law Commission and both the Australian and New Zealand Drugs Foundations backed the party's aim of legalisation, regulation and taxation of cannabis.

"We are only one step away from our goals," he stated, "The medicinal cannabis product Sativex, a sub-lingual spray, now only needs one doctor to prescribe it for patients."

He urged the government to declare an amnesty on arrests during the coming World Cup, pointing out that alcohol is causing violence at football games.
