Bannockburn winery Bald Hills has been awarded a Pure Gold medal for its  “Single Vineyard” Pinot Noir 2009, at this year’s Air New Zealand Wine Awards, announced today.

In addition to the Pure Gold, Bald Hills was awarded Silver medals for both the “Three Acres” Pinot Noir 2009 and the “Single Vineyard” Pinot Noir 2008 as well as a Bronze for the “Last Light” Riesling 2009, bringing its tally to four medals!

The Air New Zealand Wine Awards is the premier wine competition in New Zealand and is  conducted by industry body New Zealand Winegrowers. The rigorous judging process is undertaken by a team of experienced international and local judges.

The planting of Bald Hills commenced in 1997 where the highly suitable Manuherikia soils consist of deep fine sandy loam over layers of gravely schist. After some thirteen years and numerous prestigious awards, particularly for Pinot Noir, proud owner Blair Hunt says “we are only just hitting our straps”.
