Media Release – On the Road Recycling – November 2010

Amazing weather over the recent Labour Weekend Public Holiday reinforced that summer is well and truly on its way. The campervans are visible on the roads throughout Northland and the busy tourist season is kicking into gear around the region.
Throughout NZ proactive council departments and progressive visitor accommodation are making efforts to minimise packaging going to landfills which can easily be recycled. Northland sustainability experts Eco Solutions who are part of the Community Business and Environment Centre (CBEC) have developed the perfect solution to compliment these efforts. The solution is in line with NZs efforts towards responsible tourism and our international branding as a clean green and 100% pure destination. For those tourists, domestic or international, who are roaming our beautiful countryside if they wish to help with keeping it this way they need look no further than Eco Solutions ‘On the Road Recycling’ to ensure all of their recyclables can also go on their own journey.
Tourists wishing to participate can stop at Information Sites throughout Northland as well as now the Queenstown Districts to collect the ‘On the Road Recycling’ menu of dedicated drop off locations in a handy rack card form, all AA guides and Jason Maps. The prepaid recycling bag to contain the recyclables covers the cost of their journey and can be purchased at these visitor information centres.
‘Feedback from tourists staying in areas where recycling is not usually an option has been really positive’ says project manager at Eco Solutions Beau Mallett ‘We are expecting this project will just keep growing as the awareness of the programme expands and more partners come on board to support it’ Beau says ‘The next steps for this initiative is to go national, ideally we would have this in place ready for the influx of overseas guests for the Rugby World Cup’ ‘ Campervan companies and service stations would become an integral part of this recycling initiative for tourists’
