The 6-0 wins keep coming for the Parnell men after the latest round of Scarbro Caro Bowl tennis as they now have the maximum 48 points having not dropped a single match all season.

In the latest contest they defeated Cockle Bay dropping just one set in the process and are now two points ahead of nearest rivals, Campbell Park who have 46 points, after losing just their second individual match of the season. The two sides clash in a final round robin match next Friday at Parenll in what is also likely to be a preview of the Grand Final two weeks later. This is a contest which will be a highlight of the season with current and former international players turning out for both clubs and plenty of rivalries.

Parnell can call on Kiwi No3 Rubin Statham, Mark Nielsen and Alistair Hunt (both former top 200 ranked players) along with the talented Anton Bettink and Steve Downs a former top 300 player.

Campbell Park have used Aussie pro Dane Propoggia, former professional Gustavo Gomez(Argentina), former Kiwi Davis Cup player Adam Thompson, another former Argentine pro, Mariano Pettigrosso as well as Robbie Cheyne who is a former Kiwi Davis Cup player.

As a result of Statham being at the Configure Express professional tournament in Wellington, Parnell had Nielsen fill in at No1 in their round six match and he duly accounted for Andrew Batie in straight sets. Alistair Hunt defeated Matt Meredith in the second singles.

Campbell Park dropped the second doubles match to Pompallier, but won every other match, although Thompson had to battle for the first couple of sets against Adam Lee before coming away easily in the third set.

Remuera were far too strong for Herne Bay winning without dropping a set and will continue their battle for third and fourth next Friday against Blockhouse Bay who beat Royal Oak 4-2. The Bay were able to call up Artem Sitak straight from the plane from Wellington to win in three sets over Aaron McDougal.

Royal Oak won their matches courtesy of Bryce Hayr who triumphed over Eru Lyndon in a third set tiebreak while McDougall and Scott Winnard defeated  Jackson Bodle and Wayne Molloy in a doubles matches for the Oak’s second point.

Herne Bay host Royal Oak in what will be their final match of the season.

In women’s sixth round action Parnell have moved up the table in first ahead of Royal Oak who had the bye. Parnell beat Mission Bay 5-1 but only after teenager Davina Meza had scored a good win over Rewa Hudson for the Bay’s point.

Otherwise it was all straight sets for Parnell’s former international players, Franziska Etzel, Pavlina Nola and Amanda Trail. Kohimarama also strengthened their top four position with their second countback win in a row, this time over Pompallier eight sets to six. Pompallier will play away to Royal Oak in the final round robin while Parnell take on Remuera.

In the other round six women’s match Remuera secured their second win of the season with a 4-2 success against Glendowie who host Mission Bay in the final round this Friday.
