Clive Four Square will have its liquor license suspended for three days this week, after two 17-year-olds were sold a bottle of wine during a controlled purchase operation.

The suspension means the store will still be able to open and trade as usual, but cannot sell liquor for three days beginning at 7am on Thursday 25 November 2010.

The duty manager of the store did not see the illegal sale take place, but has had her Manager’s Certificate suspended by the Liquor Licensing Authority for two weeks.

John O'Shaughnessy, Hastings District Council’s Group Manager: Planning and Regulatory Services, said liquor license holders have a duty to perform at every sale of alcohol.

“The message is simple – if you or your staff are not 100% sure about a purchaser’s age, ask for ID. We’ll continue to carry out unannounced checks of licensed premises around Hastings District, and we’ll continue to apply for suspensions where we find underage liquor sales.”
