Changing two landfills into transfer stations will bring more on site recycling opportunities for users.

From Wednesday this week (December 1) the Dannevirke and Pahiatua landfills will cease being dumping grounds and become better organised to cater for specific recycling materials.

Green waste for example can no longer just be dropped off but will be treated as a separately charged item.

Offal disposal along with liquid waste will now be off limits at the new transfer stations.
Whereas tyres have previously been dumped at the landfills on site recycling facilities will be available.
There will be separate facilities for batteries, paints, and light gauge metals.
In Dannevirke local contractors Solid Waste Services and Hamish Schmidt will be operating on site from early next year.

Attendants would be available at both transfer stations to assist the public, manager solid waste Jeremy Hirst said.

The new layout and added facilities would be a smarter way to manage waste material in a more environmentally responsible manner, Mr Hirst said.
