Richard Northey steps down as Chair of Problem Gambling Foundation Board

After eight years as Chair of the Problem Gambling Foundation (PGF) Board, Richard Northey is stepping down to concentrate on his new role with Auckland Council after his recent election to its Governing Body.

Richard Northey, now Chair of Auckland Council’s Accountability and Performance of Council and CCO’s Committee, says his role as Chair of PGF has been particularly satisfying.

“Over this time, we have seen many changes and the organisation has matured along with the sector,” he says.

“Although I am stepping down from my role as Chair of the PGF Board because of my new role with Auckland Council, I will be continuing to serve on the Board.”

Long-serving Board member, Rod Perkins, who has had an extensive career in health administration and management in the public health system in New Zealand, has been elected as the new Chairman.

Rod Perkins is a senior manager in the Selwyn Foundation and on the honorary staff at the School of Population Health at the University of Auckland.

After serving on the PGF Board since 2003, Rod Perkins says he is looking forward to stepping into the role of Chair.

“There will be challenging times ahead and I am looking forward to working with staff as we face the future in my role as Chair,” he says.

“Richard Northey has served the Board well as Chair for many years so I will step into my new role with a well-established Board, committed to the organisation’s mission to eliminate the harm caused by gambling.”
